ROTENBURG, Germany (AP) -- Preventing goals has been a strength for Trinidad and Tobago at the World Cup, with an organized defense and solid goalkeeping from Shaka Hislop frustrating more talented opponents from England and Sweden.

But if the Soca Warriors are to have any chance to advance to the second round, they will finally need to score at least one goal Tuesday night against Paraguay.

"Playing England and Sweden as the little nation that we are, we will always be under the caution defending for most of the game," midfielder Chris Birchall said. "Against Paraguay we know what we have to do. We have to win, so I think the coach will put a more attacking team out there. I think against Paraguay we will go forward and try to put pressure on them."

Trinidad and Tobago has one point after two matches, thanks to a 0-0 draw against Sweden in the opener. To have any chance to advance, Trinidad needs to beat Paraguay, have England beat Sweden, and hope the margin from the two games adds up to at least three.

Despite his team having only five shots on goal the first two games, coach Leo Beenhakker doesn't plan to alter his tactics at the start. He says the defensive focus the first two games was more a result of Sweden and England controlling the time of possession than a strategy going into the game.

"When the other team always has the ball, you have to move back and back and back and don't get a lot of possibilities," Beenhakker said. "Our intentions are always the same. It's to try to get in front as soon as possible and as quickly as possible. If we don't have the ball, we have to work to get it back. That's always the name of the game."

Paraguay has been nearly as tough defensively as Trinidad, allowing only an own goal against England and a last-minute score against Sweden in a pair of 1-0 losses that eliminated the Paraguayans.

Trinidad has had only a few opportunities to score in the first two games and has been unable to convert. Cornell Glen hit the crossbar in the opener against Sweden and England defender John Terry made an acrobatic save at the goal line to stop Stern John's header in the second game.

"We need to finish the chances we get," Glen said. "At this level, you only get two or three opportunities and you need to take advantage of those. But if you don't have the ball, you can't create opportunities. We need to do a better job possessing the ball."

One possibility that could help the team create more chances would be to give midfielder Russell Latapy a chance to play. The man nicknamed the "Little Magician" for his ability to create opportunities with the ball is one of the country's best players ever, but has slowed a bit at age 37.

"Hopefully he may have the opportunity against Paraguay because we need to get goals and we need to win and that may fit him more than the other games," captain Dwight Yorke said. "If I had a choice, Russell would be playing every day. It's an important game for us and we know we need to get goals. He's someone who can create and score goals at the same time. Whether the manager sees what I see as a captain is not up to me."

Beenhakker has stressed the need to use midfielders who can win the ball back from the opposition -- something he says is not one of Latapy's strengths -- but said Sunday that Latapy could be an option if the team needs to score late in the game.

Trinidad will be without defender Cyd Gray, who is out three weeks with a partially torn ligament in his left knee. Left back Avery John is expected to return to the lineup after missing the England game with a suspension, and central defender Marvin Andrews is also available after missing the first two games with a knee injury.
