　　Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Chris Birchall believes England would be more effective with Aaron Lennon on the right flank rather than David Beckham.

　　Beckham, who has set up two of England's three goals at the World Cup, was given a more defensive role when Lennon was brought on against Trinidad on Thursday.

　　Lennon's arrival as a substitute, along with Wayne Rooney, changed the pace of the game and England ran out 2-0 winners in the Group B clash.

　　In his column in the Daily Mail, Birchall said: 'David Beckham hasn't got the legs now to go past players on the right and whip in a good ball, so the only pass he seems to play at the moment is the big one to Peter Crouch.'

　　However, Birchall does not see England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson dropping his captain, and the Port Vale player added: 'He won't leave Beckham out, even though I think Aaron Lennon will do a better job down the right.

　　'Rooney coming off the bench was more of a lift for them than it was a concern for us because we knew he wasn't fully fit. But it was Lennon who made the difference because he gave them a more attacking threat, doing the job Beckham should have been doing.'
