Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves insisted his team would target a place in the last 16 of the World Cup after holding Mexico to a draw.
The Black Antelopes are one of four African teams who are competing in the World Cup for the very first time.
And a backs-to-the-wall defensive effort saw them keep the Mexicans at bay last night, to ensure they still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages from Group D.
The goalless draw was greeted with delight in Angola where the streets of the capital Luanda were filled with revellers.
But Goncalves is adamant that his team can go further by winning their last match against Iran - a result which, depending on other games, could see them through to the last 16.
'I am very pleased with this result,' Goncalves said.
'Now we must wait and see what happens. It will be very difficult for us but we must remember nothing is decided at this point.
'The game with Iran is very important and we must win this time.'
Angola lost their opener 1-0 to Portugal but defended heroically against the Mexicans after having Andre sent off in the second half.
Goncalves added: 'Now we will go back to Celle (where Angola are based) and we must work well in the days before the next match, we must work hard.'
The coach insists the Angolans are playing not just for their homeland but also the continent of Africa.
Tunisia are old hands on the World Cup stage and drew 2-2 with Saudi Arabia in their opener but, until last night, the four World Cup debutants - Angola, Togo, Ivory Coast and Ghana - had failed to muster a single point between them.
'We had an objective when we came to the World Cup to unite the country and also our continent and this result is a step in that direction,' said Goncalves.
Defender Delgado was delighted with the result, said: 'A draw with Mexico is a really big result for us.
'Mexico are one of the biggest teams in the history of the World Cup and for us to get a result like this is very important.
'The game with Iran will be very difficult - it's quite simple ... we have to win it.
'Our objective is to get through to the next round.'
