舍甫琴科的傷情給他的首次世界盃亮相蒙上了一層陰影。舍甫琴科一個月以前在他最後一場意甲比賽對陣帕爾馬的比賽中，膝蓋受傷。

　　POTSDAM (AFP) - Ukraine's former European player of the year Andriy Shevchenko has cast doubt on his being fit to play in their Group H opener against Spain.

　　The 29-year-old former AC Milan and Dynamo Kiev striker is recovering from a month old knee injury which he suffered during Milan's and what was to be his last Serie A match against Parma. He has since joined Chelsea for 30million pounds.

　　While he played for 30 minutes and scored in the 3-0 friendly victory over Luxembourg last Thursday he said he was still not 100 percent certain of being able to play a role in the match on Wednesday that pits the two group favourites against each other.

　　"I do not know if I will be 100 percent against Spain," admitted Shevchenko.

　　"I am going to do everything in my power to play."

　　Shevchenko revealed that coach Oleg Blokhin was also not rushing him back in to full pace at training.

　　"He says to me all the time 'Slowly, slowly, we need you'. He is putting the brakes on me."

　　Blokhin for his part said that he did not feel it was obligatory for his star player to play.

　　"Germany played without Ballack against Costa Rica and that didn't prevent them from winning," said the former Soviet Union footballing great.

　　The 1975 world footballer of the year said that he believed his team could be crowned world champions in their first ever appearance at football's showpiece.

　　"We could be world champions. A soldier who does not want to become a general is not a good soldier," said Blokhin, paraphrasing Napoleon, who declared that 'in every soldier's backpack lies a marshal's baton'.

　　Ukraine move on from the Spain clash to Asian giants Saudi Arabia in Hamburg on June 19 and then round off their first round campaign against 2004 African Nations champions Tunisia in Berlin on June 23.
