　　Trinidad and Tobago captain Dwight Yorke has hailed the impact Chris Birchall has had on the squad.

　　The Port Vale midfielder, whose mother was born in Port of Spain, became the first white player to represent the country in 60 years when he was called up during the qualifying campaign.

　　The 22-year-old quickly established himself as one of the Soca Warriors with some all-action performances.

　　He then produced a stunning strike in the play-off against Bahrain and was on target again in Wednesday's 3-1 friendly defeat to Slovenia.

　　"At the time he joined the team he was the odd guy out but we all welcome him with open arms and he's been very much a key player to our team," said Yorke.

　　"I must admit, I didn't know about Chris earlier on, but all credit goes to him. He's come in and done a fantastic job and has become an influential player for us along the way.

　　"Chris is a fantastic bloke, he takes everything in his stride," Yorke added.

　　"We are very lucky that we have someone as passionate as him, and he brings something different to the table."

　　Trinidad and Tobago's next warm-up game is against the Czech Republic on June 3, with their opening World Cup clash against Sweden on June 10.
