　　England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has declared Michael Owen ready for the opening World Cup match against Paraguay.

　　The 26-year-old striker spent much of last season on the sidelines after suffering a foot injury in Newcastle's New Year's Eve clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

　　Having only made one substitute appearance for The Magpies before the end of the season there was much concern about whether Owen would be ready for the World Cup.

　　Eriksson insists he is not concerned about this, saying that the former Liverpool and Real Madrid star's fitness is no longer an issue.

　　"He's a big-match player and against Paraguay you will see the real Michael Owen," Eriksson said.

　　"I am not worried about him at all. The only thing I was concerned about two weeks ago was his fitness and that is perfect."

　　The Swede admitted he has given the England vice-captain permission to ease through the pre-tournament friendlies though.

　　"He is not afraid - but Michael is not going in," added Eriksson.

　　"He is apprehensive and cautious and that's because he has been out of football for a long time.
