　　PETER CROUCH has gone from boo-boy victim to cult hero in a very short space of time.

　　Ridiculed at first, the 6ft 7in beanpole is now walking tall in front of the England fans.

　　His robotic dance has helped the Three Lions faithful warm to him.

　　More important for Sven Goran Eriksson and his team-mates are his goals.

　　Saturday’s hat-trick against Jamaica took Crouch’s tally to five in the last three senior internationals.

　　It is all a long way from being booed on to the pitch when he replaced Shaun Wright-Phillips against Poland in October last year.

　　Liverpool striker Crouch said: “I’ve had some stick from England fans but, thankfully, I’ve come through the other side.

　　“The faith Rafael Benitez and Sven had in me helped me through it.

　　“Now I really feel part of the England set-up and my confidence could not be higher.

　　“Things are going very well for me at the moment.”

　　Crouch, 25, scored against Uruguay and Hungary then hit his treble at Old Trafford on Saturday.

　　Only an embarrassing missed penalty against the Reggae Boyz — which brought stinging criticism from Eriksson — blotted his copy book.

　　The striker said: “I just got caught up in the moment — but it won’t happen again.

　　“Thankfully, I got another chance for the hat-trick. That was a big relief because I’d have felt pretty bad if I’d missed out on a hat-trick because of a stupid penalty.”
