Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels France's big players have proved their class at this summer's World Cup finals.
Les Bleus came into the tournament on a low note and disappointing efforts in the group stage failed to raise expectation.
However, they have stepped up a gear in disposing of Spain, Brazil and Portugal in the knockout stages and Wenger believes France's spine is the reason for their improvement.
Zinedine Zidane has taken the plaudits and Wenger feels he deserves high praise, along with Thierry Henry, William Gallas, Lilian Thuram, Claude Makelele and Patrick Vieira.
"This team arrived here with not much hope from within France but it is the generation of Zidane and Henry and they have achieved what they have," Wenger told Sky Sports News.
Zidane came out of international retirement to help France qualify and Wenger feels the decision has proved to be justified.
"It was his generosity because he saw that France was in difficulty," added Wenger. "And everybody in France is happy he made this decision."
Thierry Henry has not looked at his imperious best this summer, but Wenger feels he deserves credit for sacrificing himself for the team.
"For me, he has had a great World Cup which has not been acknowledged," noted the Gunners chief.
Former Arsenal star Patrick Vieira has also caught Wenger's eye, along with defensive stars Thuram and Gallas and midfield destroyer Makelele.
"He has been fantastic," Wenger said of Vieira. "He has been the engineer from midfield.
"We have a good central backbone: Gallas, Thuram, Vieira and Makelele and then Zidane and Henry.
"They have had outstanding World Cups and that is why we are where we are."
Wenger feels France have to take their chances if they are to get the better of the master defenders that are Italy in Sunday's final.
"They have to transform what they create in a big way," stated Wenger.
