Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has questioned the merits of the third-place play-off at the World Cup.
Scolari's Portugal were beaten by host nation Germany in Saturday's pre-final clash.
The first half hardly set the pulse racing and although there were four goals after the interval, Scolari does not believe there is anything to be gained from asking the beaten semi-finalists to take the field once again.
"The game just made things worse for those who lost and gave very little for winners," he said.
"If you lose a game like this, you go back to your country with the image of defeat when it should be that we are one of the four best nations in the world.
"It's difficult to explain, it's a game which, in my opinion, should not take place, it won't satisfy the dreams of a country and plays against the team that loses.
"Two teams played but tomorrow you will see a different game in the final, there is something at stake."
Portugal head home on Sunday, with the country's FA set to embark on trying to persuaded Scolari to sign a new deal.
