MADRID, July 9 (Reuters) - Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate is hoping to convince new coach Fabio Capello that he has a future at the club after undergoing intensive treatment for a persistent thigh injury in England.
The 26-year-old said that he would be ready to take a full part in the club's pre-season training which starts on July 12 and dismissed suggestions that Real are keen to offload him because of his injury problems.
"I love tough physical training and from what I've been told Capello will be demanding that from the very first day and that's great," Woodgate told Spanish sports daily AS on Sunday.
"I'm ready for pre-season training and really looking forward to the 12th so that I can join in with the rest of the team and prove to those people that don't have any faith in me that I'm ready for the new season.
"Fighting against those who don't believe in me helps me keep going."
Woodgate has played just nine league games since joining Real from Newcastle United for $25 million in August 2004.
He returned to England in April to receive treatment on a long-running thigh injury from a physiotherapist at his former club Leeds United.
The England international insisted he wanted to remain at Real despite suggestions in the Spanish press that the club was keen to sell him and recruit Juventus centre back Fabio Cannavaro.
"No one in the club has been in contact to say they don't want me so someone is clearly making it all up," Woodgate said.
