　　France defender Thuram set for record cap

　　France coach Raymond Domenech has praised central defender Lilian Thuram, who is poised to make history with his 117th cap for Les Bleus against Togo in their final World Cup Group G match.

　　Thuram, 34, will break the 116-cap record he currently shares with Marcel Desailly, one of his team-mates in the defence that formed the backbone of the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000-winning teams.

　　Domenech said: 'I am pleased for him. He is a real pro. We really missed him when he retired for 18 months.

　　'He is a very good professional who brought solidarity to the team and I am very happy for him.'

　　Thuram featured in the back four alongside Desailly, Laurent Blanc and Bixente Lizarazu who never lost any of the 27 internationals they played together as a unit - the other three have all retired.

　　The back four was the cornerstone of the successful France side and conceded only two goals in France 98 - one a penalty in a group match with Denmark where France, having already qualified for the last 16, fielded a largely reserve team.

　　Blanc missed the World Cup final through suspension and was replaced by Frank Leboeuf while the only two goals Thuram has scored in his 116 appearances for Les Bleus came in the 1998 semi-final with Croatia who took the lead before Thuram's brace saw France into the final.
