　　This match was important for two reasons. I left five players out, protecting them as they were on one booking and to give them more recovery time. The players that came in did their job well and showed they are valued members of the squad.

　　Today, I liked the result best as it puts us in an ideal position. My major concern was from the 15th to the 30th minute of the second half when we were a man up and should have dominated. We should have passed the ball around more but we made small mistakes which are sometimes common in Portugal.

　　Why we threw six men forward, I don’t know. We were anxious and took risks so we’ll have to learn how to play against ten. But for the other 70 minutes I was happy. Mexico are a difficult team to play against. They have good technique and passing. Simao (Sabrosa) played well as did the others.

　　Ricardo LA VOLPE (MEX)

　　We started well and had control of the ball but when you have control, you need to score a goal and we even missed a penalty. We have the same problem, we're creating chances but we're not converting them. Our players have experience and are accustomed to adversity so we were able to come back from the poor start.

　　The group was difficult but all World Cup groups are. Generally, I think we’ve played well in the games. I’ve watched us on video and we’re controlling games. There are few teams that meet our standard when it comes to playing the ball.

　　We have to wait for the result in the Holland-Argentina match before we can plan for Saturday. Our team has been under pressure for three and a half years. From Saturday we start from zero. There are no advantages. I think it will suit us.
