　　My players really gave it 100 percent. If you’re faced with disputes for weeks on end like the ones we’ve had, then that’s bound to affect you deep down. When you take the circumstances into account, I think they played really well. In football, you always have to have a winner and a loser, and today, we came out on the wrong end of things. All I can say is congratulations to Switzerland.

　　Tomorrow (Tuesday), we’ll have a light jogging session to keep the muscles loose. Then we’ll have another training session, and then obviously on Friday we’re playing France in Cologne. I’ll talk to the team now and get them ready for the next match. There are four or five members of the squad who haven’t played at all yet, and it’s time for them to get some experience at this level.

　　The Swiss have a good team, but today they were below their best because they only played with one up front. We tried to exploit that by packing the midfield, but we unfortunately couldn’t put any of our chances away. We’re here to learn though. All 23 players in my squad are good enough to be here, and we saw that today. I’m going to give my lads the chance to carry on with the learning curve.

　　Daniel Gygax injured his hip and was in pain, which is why I took him off. The substitutions towards the end of the match were worked out in advance. I had planned to bring on two attackers if we only had a one-goal lead, as it wouldn’t have made any difference if today’s game had finished 1-0 or 0-0, as either result would have meant that we would have to win our last match against Korea. Now it’s different, though, but of course we still want to win our last match.

　　Unfortunately, we made a few mistakes today. Togo surrendered the midfield, but we didn’t take advantage of this. But we’re here to learn, and I hope that we’ll get better than this. It was unbelievable to play in Dortmund and see nothing but red shirts in the stands! The atmosphere was incredible.

　　My players have got the fans excited. The people who come to watch us want to see players who will give everything for their country out on the pitch.
