The men's 200m freestyle event got most of the attention. China's world record holder Zhang Lin aimed for his 3rd gold medal in the National Games.

Sun Yang from Zhejiang posed the biggest threat to Zhang Lin. But Zhang Lin upheld his star status and underlined his dominance after the first turn. The swimmer from Beijing won in a comfortable time of 1 minute 46.12, well clear of second-placed Sun Yang who clocked 1 minute 47.22. The bronze medal went to Zhang Zhongchao from Shanghai.

The victory added the third gold to Zhang Lin's haul at the National Games. He also won the 400 meter freestyle and 4x100 freestyle relay.

Zhang Lin has 3 golds from the National Games, but he has a chance for more.  There's hardly time to rest as the world record holder still has three more races to run in the upcoming days at Shandong province.

Zhang Lin said after the race: he faced a big challenge from the country's top swimmers this time in the National Games, but for the future races, he would like to try his best to compete for each of them.
