Ren Jiyu's funeral held in Beijing

Mr. Ren Jiyu, a low-profile but outstanding philosopher, passed away on July 11 in Beijing at the age of 93. Ren Jiyu was a renowned religion scholar, and historian, as well as the honorary director of the National Library of China. His funeral was held on Friday morning in Beijing's Babaoshan Funeral Parlor.

Ren Jiyu was born in 1916 in Pingyuan County in China's eastern Shandong province. Ren got his masters degree from the Arts Institute of Peking University in 1941. Ren remained there as a professor in the Philosophy Department until 1964. At that point, Ren founded China's first religion research center: the Institute of World Religions of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1999, Ren became an academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences. From 1987 to 2005, Ren acted as the director of the National Library of China.

He was born on 15 April 1916,

in Pingyuan County, Shandong Province.

He got the master degree of Arts Institute,

Peking University in 1941.

He engaged in teaching Philosophy Dept.

at Peking University from 1941 to 1964.

He founded the Institute of World Religions in 1964.

He became an academician of Int'l Eurasian Acad. of Sciences in 1999.

He acted as the honorary director of the National Library of China from 1987-2005.
