Special Report: No.1 Document Targets Rural-Urban Development |

For more analysis into the No.1 document, we now cross over to Dr. Tang Min, Deputy Director of the China Development Research Foundation.

1. Timing of the focus on rural development

Thanks for joining us Dr.Tang. The No.1 document is widely seen as a landmark in China's shift to a focus on rural development. A record sum of fiscal support is expected to flow to the rural regions. Why has the government chosen this time to take action in supporting rural development?

2. Balancing rural & urban growth

The focal point of the document is the attempt to balance the growth of rural and urban regions. Do you think the policy will effectively narrow the income gap between rural and urban areas? What must be done to solve the problems hampering rural development?

3. New generation of migrant workers

For the first time ever, the document mentions resolving the difficulties of "the new generation of migrant workers", who were born in the 1980s or 90s. This group makes up the majority of migrant workers across the country. In your analysis, what's the difference between the new generation of migrant workers and those who are older? What are the new problems they face?

4. Efforts for real benefits to farmers

What governmental measures are needed to effectively implement the new policies, and bring real benefit to farmers?
