Special Report: PLA Air Force 60-Year Anniversary |

In today's special report depicting the growth of the 60-year-old Chinese air force, we take a look at the ground-to-air missile troops. As one of the most important components of China's PLA Air Force, they are responsible for the country's air defense system at high, medium and low altitudes.

It's the first appearance of ground-to-air missile troops at a national military parade.

Their domestically developed missiles attracted the attention of the world.

But back late 1950s when the troops were established, they tried hard to avoid attention.

Zhao Zhencai, Head of Ground-to-air missile Parade Array, said, "When the troops were established, our soldiers didn't wear uniforms. They were disguised as well-digging workers or exploration teams."

The ground-to-air missile troops have made significant achievements over the past 50 years. In 1959, one year after its establishment, the brigade became the first in the world to shoot down an aircraft using ground-to-air missiles.

The troops played an important role in protecting China during various conflicts. In the era of peaceful development, they have developed new tactics to fight state-of-the-art fighters.

Their training involves using the latest equipment and technologies.

Wang Pei, Brigade Commander of Ground-to air missile troops, said, "In our brigade, the modern command cabin has taken the place of the traditional command headquarters. Now, we can give orders more promptly and more effectively."

The brigade has developed all-distance and all-altitude ground-to-air missiles, proving the sky is the limit when it comes to national security.
