Transport systems cope surging traffic during holiday

China's transport network has seen more than 560 million passengers over the Golden Week Holiday. 488 million people travelled across roads and highways, while more than 60 million boarded trains over the same period.

On Thursday last week, the first day of the holiday, railway systems transported 6.2 million passengers, setting a new record for October the first. While 5.3 million passengers took the skies over the holidays, up 7.8 percent from the same period last year. Domestic carriers were expecting the surge, increasing operational capacities by 11.3 percent from a year ago.
