The head of the sport continues to discuss his desire to see the World Cup expand. Gianni Infantino reitirated that at the Globe soccer Conference in Dubai. Currently the football showpiece has 32 teams, but the FIFA President would like to see more than that in the future.

"To increase the size of the teams in the World Cup to 40 or 48 by having a format which works from the sporting point of view, by keeping the same number of dates for the World Cup because we all know that the international match calendar is very congested, keeping the burden on the organiser similar by having the same number of stadiums, then I think we should be looking at increasing the number of teams. Because today football is not anymore only in Europe and South America. It is also in Asia, Africa, Oceania and northern and Central America," he said.
