A cold front has hit Northern China, sending temperatures plummeting in the Kuitun reclamation area in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to minus 24 degrees Celsius.

The Yellow River has frozen more quickly than usual in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

In the past two days, the mercury has plunged by around 10 degrees Celsius in Northeastern China.

The National Meteorological Center says as the cold air moves south-eastward, the temperature is likely to go up in most places in Northern China during the New Year holiday.
