Agricultural work, plans for 2017 discussed in Beijing

Central Conference on Rural Work got underway on Monday in the capital Beijing. The conference is held to review the country's agricultural and rural work and to outline development plans for 2017. The annual meeting focuses on "supply-side structural reform", which is considered as the mainline for agricultural and rural work.

It also aims to cultivate new momentum for agricultural development, and to improve the competitiveness of the industry. The conference emphasizes that in order to push forward structural reform, the agricultural structure needs to be adjusted and optimized. Also, the quality of agricultural products should be more prominently placed.

At the same time, the meeting sets poverty alleviation goals for next year. More than 10 million people are expected to be lifted out of poverty in 2017.
