China launched a brand new emergency response system called 'Reunion' earlier this year to crack down on the practice of child trafficking. An initiative by China’s Ministry of Public Security, the details of 286 missing children were added to the system, with 260 of them now having being accounted for. Their photos and descriptions of their physical characteristics were distributed to the areas in which they were last seen.

The iniative has received a lot of public support, most notably from Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba who has provided technological support, Sina Weibo for information circulation, Gaode Map for navigation and location. The next phase of the project will see it graduate to every social media outlet in China, including the like of Baidu, Tencent and Didi Chuxing. Of the 260 children who have been found, more than half had run away from home. Eighteen had to be rescued from human traffickers, while 52 had died since their disappearance.
