Olympic shooting champ Guo Wenjun joins Xi'an Jiaotong University mini marathon

Keep our running shoes on for the 2016 Xi'an Jiaotong University mini marathon. The long-distance event being held on the school's campus in Xi'an, which is in Shaanxi Province, and comprised of competitors from various instituitions.

More than 400 college students from 20 universities in Shaanxi took part in the mini marathon. Two-time Olympic shooting champion Guo Wenjun, who was born in Xi'an and former Chinese hurdler Shi Dongpeng were on hand to lend support.

There are two categories of races -- a three-and-a-half kilo run, and a 5-k affair. The route is a fairly simple one, as it goes around, the Xi'an Jiaotong University campus.

Dong Mingyu was the fastest in the 5-k mini marathon, clocking in at 19 minutes and 49 seconds. But the point of this race was to promote a healthy lifestyle for college students.

"I suggest college students excercise more in their daily life. Running is also a perfect way to reduce the pressure of studying," said Shi Dongpeng.

The Olympian later joined the top finishers on the podium. After the awards ceremony, Zhao Jiexiu from the China Institute of Sports Science delivered a lecture for the college students on running marathons.
