China's Ding Junhui would face Scot John Higgins for a place in the final. The Chinese has played some of his best snooker in 2016 and although he would be in good form here, it wouldn't be enough to get past the former world number one.

Ding was placed in the first group in the tournament where wins over Ali Carter and Stuart Bingham booked his place in the last 4. The last time these two met was in Daqing earlier this year. Ding came away with a 6-2 win on that occasion but the contest would be a lot closer this time despite the Chinese going on to rack up over 100 points 4 times throughout the encounter.

In the first frame, Higgins is at the top of his game. When his opponent fails to find a red of the cushion after the first break, the Scot goes on to clinch the opener in convincing fashion.

Ding comes back strong in the second after cutting this red into the side pocket. He makes it 1-1 before the pair are eventually level at 3 apiece going into the 7th frame.

The 29-year-old then pots this long red on his way to landing a break of 142 to take a 4-3 and his third century of the game.

But Higgins draws level before Ding claims his fourth century to take a 5-4 lead. The 4-time world champion experience shows in the final two frames and he eventually comes back to win 6-5 thanks to a dominating 69-1 win in the decider. He will play "Rocket" Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final.
