From sulptures, we turn to the 7th art. The 13th Changchun Film Festival kicked off in the city, in northeast China's Jilin Province. The film, The Warrior, opened the festival to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army’s Long March.

Over 220 domestic films are confirmed to take part during the five-day festival, including box office smash hit Mr. Six, and 3D revolutionary movie The Taking of Tiger Mountain. Hundreds of movie stars, directors, and screentwriters from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are taking part in the festival. 

40-plus filmmakers and more than 60 media organizations are slated to visit Changchun. The event includes screenings of 107 classic domestic and foreign films as well as film forums and exhibitions. At least 15 films, such as Song of the Phoenix, Wolf Totem and Monster Hunt, are shortlisted for Best Chinese Feature Film. The winners of the Jinlu Award, or Golden Deer Award, the highest honor at the event, will be announced at the closing ceremony of the festival on Saturday.
