We continue with racing but switch gas powered cars for electric as Hong Kong held its first ever "ePrix" over the weekend. And it would be  the reigning Formula E champion Sebastien Buemi of Team Renault successfully defending his title to make a perfect start to the third season.

Speed and Passion…

Formula ePrix roared into Hong Kong’s Central streets, as crowds turned out to enjoy the city’s first major international motor sport event in over 30 years.

After a thrilling 50 minutes, and after surviving dangerous turns along some 40-plus laps, Team Renault's Sebastien Buemiclaimed the top spot on the podium - a perfect start to his title defense.

“My start was good, but I didn’t really manage to pass anyone.  It’s not easy to be honest, because we had a very long sting so I had to save a lot of energy and then at the end, the battery over heated massively, so I think one more lap would be impossible.” Winner of Hong Kong EPRIX Sebastien Buemi said.

The Frenchman took the lead midway through the race and fended off rival Lucas Di Grassi, last season’s runner-up.

"It's crazy. For Lucas, I think the strategy obviously acted massively, because in a normal race, it would be impossible to do. They did pretty well. For us, it's good to finish the difficult race. We did pretty well. Now we had a good start so really happy." Sebastien Buemi said.

Fans not only enjoyed the exhilaration from their seats, but also took part in the race: spectators were able to vote for their favorite drivers, and those who got the most votes were rewarded with a speed boost.

The motor sport event allured thousands of spectators to the recognizable landmarks along Hong Kong's central harbor. Besides the grandstands along the racing track, fans can also visit the three multifunctional e-villages, where plenty of activities have been set up to share the excitement of the Hong Kong ePrix with the wider community.

Blasting off the grid in 2014, the Formula E Championship sets a vision for the future of the motor industry, by driving the conversation on clean energy and sustainability.

This year’s third season will once again be held around the world. After Hong Kong, the electric vehicles will travel to 12 other cities including Paris, Berlin and New York before their last stop in Montreal.
