A summit on refugees and migrants is set to be a key theme during this General Assembly, for which U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon hopes to get wider international support. Official from the United Nations Children's fund has also called international communities to take concrete actions to help protecting the young refugees.

"We've just produced a report shows that children are almost half of all refugees, a huge portion of migrant children too. These children have been in terrible ordeals, often flee gang violence or conflict in Syria. Many of them are being trafficking, some been raped, we need to put children at the center of this summit just coming up," Deputy executive director of UNICEF Justin Forsyth said.

The United Nations Children's Fund or UNICEF's latest reports says 50 million children are on the move worldwide today. 28 million of them were driven from their homes by conflict. Migrant children and women especially those without documentation are vulnerable to trafficking, abuse and exploitation in transit and destination countries. Migrants and their families often find themselves victims of discrimination , poverty and social marginalization.
