Foreign Ministers from China, Japan and South Korea have met in Tokyo. The trilateral meeting comes at a time when relations between China and Japan have been strained due to territorial disputes over the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea.

Japan's interference in the South China Sea issue, as well as its attitude to war crimes committed during World War Two have also added to tensions.

In addition, Seoul's decision to deploy the THAAD anti-missile defense system in South Korea has undermined regional stability. It is hoped that the three major Asian powers can still work together to resolve disputes and deepen ties.
