Usain Bolt has his sights set on a triple-treble of medals. Trying to become the first to win, the 100, 200 and 4x100 meter relay at three Olympic Games. The Jamaican already captured the 100-meters, and looked to take another step to immortality in his preferred distance of 200-meters.

The world

The world's fastest man has his sights set on a triple-treble of medals.

Before the Olympiad he said he was hoping to break the world record in this event, which he holds and that could be trouble for the rest of the field in Brazil.

Bolt was in lane 6. France’s Christophe Lemaitre was on his outside, with Andre de Grasse of Canada in lane 4. Bolt got off to a good start and was already leading when they get to the turn. The Jamaican powered ahead down the stretch to finish in 19.78 seconds. De Grasse took silver, Lemaitre the bronze.

The women’s 4x100-meter relay sees unusual drama. The defending champs USA were disqualified in the morning heats after a dropped baton exchange between Allyson Felix and English Gardner.

Women

Women's 4x100-meter relay.

The U.S. filed a protest later, saying they were interfered with by the Brazilians, and they were given another chance, but in a solo heat, in which they clocked 41.77 to beat China’s eighth fastest qualifying time of 42.70 seconds. China appealled twice, and were rejected twice.

Sara Kolak won the women’s javelin, dashing Czech Barbora Spotakova’s dreams of becoming the first woman to win three consecutive gold medals in the same individual athletics event. The 21-year-old Croatian set a personal best of 66.18 metres. China’s Huihui was seventh.

China

China's Lyu finishes in seventh with 64.04m heave.
