The Chinese duo making history for their country -- and doing so after so many close calls. And since the pair started teaming together, they have found plenty of success.

They formed a partnership in 2014 -- grabbing silver at the World Championships. But later that year, Gong Jinjie and Zhong Tianshi would take the top spot on the podium winning the Incheon Asian Games, beating South Korean pair Kim Won-Gyeong and Lee Hye-Jin.

They would grab gold at the 2015 World Championships in France, again beating Shmeleva and Voinova. And that was the catalyst to their Olympic triumph -- and it is worth noting again they set the world record twice in Rio, before clinching the first cycling gold for China.
