The other match-up in Group F would involve Hungary taking on tenth ranked Austria. The Hungarians, who were a powerhouse in the mid 1950's, and known as the Magical Magyars are no longer part of the elite footballing nations. In fact, this was the Eastern Europeans first time at a major tournament since 1986.

And it looks like they would fall behind early -- as Bayen Munich's David Alaba thumps the Hungary goalpost in the first minute

The match is scoreless till the second half when Adam Szalai, who plays for Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, crafts a one-two with Laszlo Kleinheisler before firing home from close range in the 63rd minute.

Things go from bad to worse for the Austrians 5 minutes later -- they thought they equalized, but instead go down a man as Alexsandar Dragovic is shown a second yellow.

And the Magyars grab a late goal through substitute Zoltan Stieber who makes a solo run and chips it over the head of the keeper.

Hungary come up with a shocking 2-nil result over Austria.

"I am very happy with the results. we were well prepared for the match, and full of confidence, and went through a full practice before the contest. My teammate made a good pass. I benefitted from that and scored a goal, I am very happy," said Adam Szalai, Hungary forward.

"I think we created a lot of chances, but could not score. If the goal in the second half counted, may be things are different. It was unfortunate that goal did not stand, and our teammate was sent off. But we continued to fight. Despite losing, our team will remain in good spirits and we will be prepared for the next game," said David Alaba, Austria defender.

So that victory puts the Hungarians on top of the group. Iceland and Portugal are in second after their draw, and the Austrians are bringing up the rear. The pool is back in action Saturday with Iceland meeting Hungary, and Portugal facing Austria.
