There was one other title up for grabs on the final day of the French Open. Local favorites Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic were taking on the Russian team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

It had been 45 years since two ladies from the host country had lifted the women's doubles trophy, so the duo from France were playing for history.

The Russians on serve in the ninth game of the third set, looking to reclaim the championship they previously won in 2013. But Mladenovic is perfectly positioned to send this lob over their heads. And that sets up a break point, as the fans cheer in appreciation.

Garcia is soon serving for the match, and when Makarova returns long - a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory breaks the four and a half decade women's doubles drought for the home nation, on the red clay of Roland Garros.
