The Chinese blockbuster with the most significant theme and most star-studded line-up hit the cinemas across China on Wednesday one day before its original opening date.

"The Founding of a Republic" began screening at two O'clock in the afternoon and immediately attracted 80 percent of the cinema goers. In Shanghai's Yonghua Cinema, 5-thousand group tickets have been sold. In Beijing, each theatre has been packed. Cinema managers have opened more rooms for the epic and are positive about the box office draw.

The film is set from 1945, when China won the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. It not only recalls the memory of the old generation, but aims to share that history with the new generation. This target audience makes up the main force of the cinema market.
