Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says he rejects the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with temporary borders.

He called for an open dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, saying time for a so-called two-state solution is running out.

Abbas on Saturday rejected a recent proposal, apparently from Israel, for a temporary state but did not elaborate.

Abbas urged Israel to resume what he called "serious negotiations".
