Thursday marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, a day designed to inspire awareness for the Earth's environment. People across China engaged in various activities to help promote ecological conservation.

An exhibition on the history of the Earth was held at this university in central China's Henan province. Organizers showcased objects and photos with a focus on green house emissions and desertification. A bicycle tour was held in Kunshan city in east China's Jiangsu province.

Over three-hundred people participated in the event. They hope to use the tour as a way to promote a low-carbon way of living. Earth Day was first realized in 1970. Now, more than one-billion people around the globe are estimated to take part in related events.
