Special Report: Unrest in Kyrgyzstan |
The deposed president of Kyrgyzstan has fled the country for neighboring Kazakhstan, allaying fears of renewed violence in the Central Asian nation.
Kazakhstan says the presidents of the United States, Russia and Kazakhstan helped arrange for Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev to leave the country.
It calls the development an "important step toward stabilization of the situation." Kyrgyzstan's interim administration says that Bakiyev signed a formal letter of resignation before boarding the plane.
