The magnitude 7.1 earthquake in Qinghai Province's Yushu county has also affected the surrounding areas. Five people have been killed in neighboring Sichuan Province, with one injured.

Local authorities have responded quickly by launching emergency response plans. Despite the difficulties encountered in Yushu County, rescuers are making staunch efforts to save lives.

The local meteorological department says cloudy weather and low temperatures are in store over the next four days, with sleet and showers drenching some parts of the area.
