The Bangkok protests have been getting smaller, with many people returning to their provinces, but bigger crowds are expected at Saturday's rally aimed at disrupting the capital and calling for fresh elections.
The demonstrations have lasted for nearly two weeks. Fewer than 10-thousand demonstrators were scattered around the protest site on Friday, some listening to news updates and others preparing food. Supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have vowed to continue their demonstration for weeks, and plan a "historic rally" on Saturday. Most of the protesters are farmers from Thailand's poor, rural provinces, where Thaksin remains popular due to his policies that provided micro-credit and affordable health care.
