Special Report: 2010 NPC & CPPCC Sessions |
In his work report, the nation's procurator-general, Cao Jianming, says the Supreme People's Procuratorate is focused on "Strengthening Supervision and Safeguarding Justice." The report also sets new tasks for this year. Here's a brief look at some of the key points.
Cao Jianming says the procurator bodies have made great effort to provide judicial support to ensure steady and relatively rapid growth of the national economy.
In 2009, the Supreme People's Procuratorate investigated more than 10-thousand cases of commercial bribery by government staff.
In cracking down on criminals, they approved the arrest of more than 900-thousand suspects, and more than one million people were prosecuted.
During the past year, the fight against corruption has been strengthened.
More than 40-thousand government officials have been investigated, including eight at provincial or ministerial level.
Cao also sets new targets for this year, including:
--Redoubling the effort to provide judicial support to ensure the steady, relatively rapid growth of the economy.
--Intensifying the maintenance of social harmony and stability through strict law enforcement.
--Paying more attention to tackling corruption.
--Strengthening legal supervision and promoting justice.
--Deepening reform of the work mechanism of the procurator's bodies.
--And improving the competence of procurators.
