US President Barack Obama has renewed America's commitment to the recovery and reconstruction of earthquake-devastated Haiti.

Obama told visiting Haitian President Rene Preval on Wednesday he knows the crisis has not passed.

In the White House Rose Garden, Obama told his Haitian counterpart the challenge now was to prevent a second disaster with the start of the rainy season.

He said that Washington would remain a partner with Haiti in the long road to recovery and reconstruction. For his part, Preval said reconstruction should involve the entire country, not just the most devastated areas.
