French President Nicolas Sarkozy is offering Greece "resolute" European support and vows to wage a determined fight to deter speculation against the euro.
Sarkozy met with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou in Paris on Sunday. Athens is seeking concrete actions from European partners to calm markets and bring down the country's high borrowing costs, and Papandreou found a sympathetic ear at the meeting.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said, "Greece has shown that it is capable of regaining its credibility by its own efforts. But I want to be very clear. If necessary, the member states of the Euro zone will fulfill their commitments. There can be no doubt on this. The Euro is our currency. The Euro implies solidarity. There can be no doubt on the expression of this solidarity."
