Special Report: 8.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chile |
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon visited the quake-ravaged city of Concepcion on Saturday. His presence comes a day after he met with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
While Ban toured the devastated epicenter, crews continued searching the rubble for survivors. Ban says his visit is intended to show his support for the restoration of Chile. The UN chief will also meet with Chilean president-elect Sebastian Pinera.
The first shipment of 35 tons of food from the World Food Program also arrived in Chile. Saturday's shipment is the first delivery of 70 tons of aid that will feed roughly 35,000 children.
