British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an unexpected trip to Helmand province in south Afghanistan.

He visited British troops as well as a police training center. The Prime Minister also stopped in Nad Ali and lauded the role of troops in establishing stability there. Brown says terrorists should be uprooted in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The visit took place amid an ongoing major offensive against the Taliban in Marja and Nad Ali districts. 15 thousand Afghan and NATO-led troops have been fighting insurgents in the region since February.
