President Hu meets Tibet NPC deputies

President Hu Jintao has joined a panel discussion with NPC deputies from the Tibet Autonomous Region.

President Hu Jintao said that he is happy with the rapid development in Tibet. He stressed the importance of development and stability in Tibet, and asked them to continue their work to consolidate political and ethnic unity.

Hu called for efforts to implement the policies and plans of the central government to improve Tibet's economic development and the lives of local people. The Central government has made plans to achieve faster development and lasting stability in Tibet in a bid to ensure the nation's development as a whole.

In order to further improve the livelihood of Tibetan people, more government funding will go to public services, such as education, medical services, telecommunications, and the social security network covering both urban and rural residents. The central government has invested 310 billion yuan in Tibet since 2001.
