The DPRK is asking for direct talks with the United States to settle its nuclear issue.

Speaking at a UN-backed Conference on Disarmament on Tuesday, a DPRK diplomat rejected South Korea's appeal to resume six-party talks.

He said the nuclear issue should be settled between the US and the DPRK. He also called on the US to drop its "hostile policy" toward the DPRK.
