Iran to build more nuclear plants

Iran has announced plans to build two additional uranium enrichment plants in the next Iranian year, which begins March 21st. The move has incurred more warnings from the United States.

State Department spokesman Philip Crowley says Washington is working closely with partners to identify potential targets for sanctions, and it will submit a proposal to the UN in the coming weeks.

Crowley says Iran's move is further evidence that it refuses to engage cooperatively and constructively with the IAEA. The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization said on Monday that Iran will use "new centrifuges" at the two plants.

Iran announced in November, that it planned to build up to ten new plants, because Iran's need for energy is likely to grow dramatically over the next 15 years. The IAEA worries Tehran may obtain the uranium fuel needed for nuclear weapons, through its enrichment program.
