Sri Lankan incumbent president wins re-election

Sri Lankan state television says the incumbent president has won re-election, in a hard-fought race against his former army chief after the country's devastating civil war.

State television said on Wednesday Mahinda Rajapaksa had 5.2 million votes to 3.6 million for his main rival, General Sarath Fonseka.

People were seen dancing in the streets of Colombo, celebrating the results.

Lional, Mahinda Rajapaksa Supporter, said, "Sri Lanka's had six presidents but Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only President who stood up to the world community."
