Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution, calling on the international community to provide "speedy, sustainable and adequate" support to quake-hit Haiti.

The 192-member body calls for an early international response to the UN flash appeal of 575 million US dollars for the country. The General Assembly urges UN chief Ban Ki-Moon and all relevant UN agencies, international financial institutions and development agencies to offer "effective humanitarian, technical and financial assistance." It also pays special tribute to all the staff members of the UN and international peacekeepers who have given their lives in the line of duty in Haiti.
