Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |

Orphanages are struggling to cope with the vast numbers of children arriving who lost their parents in the quake.

One orphanage that was home to some 40 children operated in a much lager building before the quake rendered it unusable. And more children are expected to arrive shortly.

UNICEF is prioritizing orphanages in their deliveries of water. Separated and unaccompanied minors are being taken into the interim centers being set up by UNICEF.

The organization will house, feed, and care for 900 children who have found themselves alone in the midst of this emergency.

To prevent the illegal departure of many children, UNICEF is deploying two specially trained staff members to control documentation at the airport.
