Illegal Haitian immigrants to be allowed to temporarily work in US

US immigration authorities say the White House will allow hundreds of thousands of illegal Haitian migrants to temporarily work in the country. The move comes in an effort to help Haitians make money to rebuild their devastated homeland.

An official with the US Citizenship and Immigration Service says Haitians who entered the US before the catastrophic earthquake ... will be able to start filing their applications for Temporary Protected Status on Thursday. He estimates that up to 200-thousand applications will be filed for this 18-month emergency measure.
